Canberra Region Rugby League have today announced a new competition structure for junior players to come into effect immediately for the 2018 season.
2018 will see an Under 17’s competition added to the current junior competition structure, while the current Austbrokers Canberra, Canberra Raiders Cup Under 18’s and Youth League competitions will become an Under 19’s competition.
These changes will be made with the Under 16’s competition retaining its current format.
CRRL General Manager Mark Vergano said that these changes have been made, after broad consultation with the Canberra rugby league community, to provide better pathways and opportunities for junior players within the Canberra region.
“These changes have been made to allow players to remain in the game longer,” Vergano said. “We want our junior players to feel comfortable and adequately prepared for senior football.
“Not only will this new structure help junior players remain in the game, it provides an opportunity for us to welcome back former players into the game.”
