Canberra Region Rugby League are implementing changes to the competition structure for the 2019 season.
An Under 15 Girls competition will be introduced to allow girls to continue playing against those of a similar age and improve pathways to allow them to reach their potential. In addition to this, the current Under 17 Girls competition will become an Under 18 competition.
Canberra Raiders Junior High Performance Manager Dean Souter said the new structure would open up opportunities for girls within the Canberra Region.
“The new Under 15 Girls competition will be great addition for 2019,” Souter said. “Not only will this keep girls playing against those of a similar age, it will help us identify talented players earlier and have them involved in our junior development and representative sides.”
Elsewhere, an Under 17 Boys competition has been included within the junior competition structure. This change means that the Canberra Raiders Cup Under 18’s and Youth League competitions will both become Under 19 competitions.
