Round 9 of the Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup is packed with action as the top of the table Bushrangers take on the second-placed Blues.
Match of the Round
Round 9 sees a top of the table clash feature as the Match of the Round when Tuggeranong travel to Queanbeyan to face the Blues on Saturday afternoon.
The Bushrangers enter this one off the back of a 46-22 win over the Queanbeyan Kangaroos in round 8 and will be hoping to deliver similar punishment to the Blues.
A clash of the heavyweights has Tuggeranong fullback Matt Gruber expecting a tight clash on Saturday.
“I’m expecting just typical Blues, they’re good across the park so we have to come with our best attitude on the day”, Gruber said.
The Blues come into this one fresh off the bye and will be looking to grab top spot off their opponents.
The Belconnen United Sharks welcome the Woden Valley Rams on Saturday afternoon.
The Sharks enter this one following a close 18-16 loss to the West Belconnen Warriors in round 8 which will give them confidence coming into this match.
Woden Valley come into this weekends clash following a comprehensive 48-22 win over the Goulburn Workers Bulldogs to pick up their third win of the season.
This clash shapes as a big one for the Rams who sit just one win outside of the top four while the Sharks will be confident they can cause an upset off the back of their performance last weekend.
Not only does round 9 see a top of the table clash, there will also be third vs fourth when the Kangaroos take on the Warriors.
The Kangaroos went down 46-22 to the Bushrangers last weekend and were right in the game up until the 65 minute mark where they just couldn’t match it with the table toppers who ran away comfortable winners.
The Warriors will also be out to improve on their performance from round 8 after just scraping past the Sharks by two points.
Expect a close clash between these two as they fight to hold onto their position inside the top four passing the halfway mark of the competition.
The Goulburn Workers Bulldogs travel to Yass to face the Magpies with both sides desperate for a win.
Yass had a good win away from home over the Gungahlin Bulls 30-16 in round 8 and will be looking to maintain pressure on the top four.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak and will face a tough test against the Magpies.
The Magpies and Bulldogs are ranked 7th and 8th in the competition in attack so it is expected to be a low scoring affair.
