Blumers Lawyers Good Sports Award – Jess Charman

This week’s Blumers Lawyers Good Sports Award goes to Jess Charman for her refereeing and volunteering at Cooma earlier this month.

As a result, Jess has won a $50 Raiders Group Bistro Voucher that can be redeemed at the following clubs: Raiders Belconnen, Raiders Weston, Raiders Gungahlin, The Mawson Club and the Queanbeyan Leagues Club.

Cooma Colts president Rob Zusak gave the following nomination:

I’m writing to you to commend Jessica Charman on her refereeing performance on Sunday 8th July at Cooma Showground.

From the moment she arrived, & took herself over to the Mini Field on her own, she seemed confident in knowing her role in the coming 5 games she was refereeing.

I introduced myself & shook her hand & offered any assistance she needed to feel free to ask,  including anything she’d like from the canteen free of charge (which we offer to all referees).

She seemed to have everything covered & was in control focusing on preparing for her first game.

That confidence carried onto the field for all 5 games she refereed, focusing on the game at hand, not the bench or the crowd, & at times helping the little ones during the game. Best of all, Jessica showed a lot of patience, & was very calm throughout.

After her 5 games were complete, she came over to the main field, where I also shifted & was then ground manager, & she offered to control the electronic scoreboard for me, which she did until she left for home.

The Cooma Colts like to think of ourselves as good advocates for encouraging females in Rugby League, having many on our committee, many as team staff, including coaches, & fielding an Under 17 Girls team.

We were very pleased to see Jessica’s name on our schedule for the day.

Hopefully, Jessica’s presence will encourage more females to participate in our sport, she certainly has the potential to become a good role model for any young girls (& boys) to take a more active part in our sport.

Please pass this on if possible in appreciation of her efforts, & that Jessica is welcome to referee in Cooma anytime in the future where practical.
