The Canberra Region Open Women’s side played their first trial game of the season last weekend as the side went down 16-12 to the Riverina in Wagga Wagga.
Despite both sides scoring three tries a piece, accuracy from the tee was the difference between the two sides.
Coach Sharleen Coomber was pleased with her sides performance, particularly with their defence.
“Their defence on the try line was pretty good,” Coomber said. “We held them out three or four times and forced errors on them.
“At the end, it was just fitness that killed us.”
With the women playing in Yass on March 25, Coomber is looking for her side to build upon last weekend’s performance.
“We want to continue being competitive and hopefully these girls get a chance of being selected in that Southern Country team.”
