We’ve collected all the votes from the McIntyre Medal to form the 2018 Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.
We’ll go through each position and if votes are tied, the player whose club finished higher on the ladder or went further in the finals series will be chosen for the position.
Jake Wheeler (Queanbeyan Blues – 5 votes)
He only played four matches this season but what an incredible four matches they were.
Switched from fullback to the centres, Wheeler piled on eight tries as the Queanbeyan Blues started the season strongly.
Unfortunately for Wheeler and the Blues, season ending injury struck before the Round 6 match against the Gungahlin Bulls.
Despite this, in four matches Wheeler managed to amass the most votes out of any centre in the competition.
Junior Vatikani (Yass Magpies – 4 votes)
The Yass centre enjoyed another solid season as he scored eight tries to finish as the sides second highest try scorer.
Strong and athletic, Vatikani proved a handful for defenders and once he scored in a match, it was always likely he would cross the line again. Five of his tries came in two matches.
Bryan Cronan (Queanbeyan Kangaroos – 3 votes)
A consistent performer throughout the season and possibly could have amassed more votes throughout the year on the back of his consistent try scoring feats.
Cronan’s 12 tries saw him finish the season as the competitions fifth best try scorer and the best out of all outside backs.
