CRC Team of the Year – Fullback

We’ve collected all the votes from the McIntyre Medal to form the 2018 Austbrokers Canberra Raiders Cup Team of the Year.

We’ll go through each position and if votes are tied, the player whose club finished higher on the ladder or went further in the finals series will be chosen for the position.

Fullback – Matt Gruber (Tuggeranong Bushrangers – 9 votes)

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers fullback only played a handful of games in 2017 but played nearly every game in 2018 as he helped the Tuggeranong Bushrangers to the Minor Premiership and the Grand Final.

Safe under the high ball and a good organiser at the back, Gruber also found his way to the try line on 7 occasions during the season.

Contenders: Ryan McQueen (West Belconnen Warriors – 9 votes)

The West Belconnen captain tied on votes with his Tuggeranong counterpart, after a season where he split his time between halfback and fullback.

McQueen scored eight tries for the season and was the creative heartbeat for the Warriors who returned to finals football after missing out last year.
