The Canberra Region Rugby League is pleased with the announcement today from the NSW Rugby League and NSW Government to allow a full return to play for senior participants from 1 July.
CRRL General Manager, Mark Vergano stated;
“This is another important step in having players potentially getting back on the field to play a game they enjoy. Post lockdown, a return to physical activity is essential for everyone’s physical and mental well-being and also provides a return to a sense of normality after the extraordinary circumstances our society has been facing in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This announcement also allows rugby league to target a return to play for July 18 as previously outlined by the CRRL and NSWRL”.
The CRRL also appreciates the work of the volunteers at all clubs in preparing their Return to Train and Return to Play protocols, which need to be completed before permission to resume training is granted. Most clubs undertook an education session on the weekend with the NSWRL on the implementation of the COVID-19 protocols for a return to train and play.
The CRRL will now continue to work with the ACT Government and ACT Sport & Recreation in negotiating a return to contact date in alignment with the NSW protocols.
