Gunning Name Head Coaches for 2020

The Gunning Roos have announced their coaching set up for next season with Paul Loughhead and Bradley Knights leading the George Tooke Shield and League Tag sides respectively.

Loughhead takes the reigns at the Gunning Roos and is eager to have an impact in his first job as a Head Coach after being an Assistant Coach at the West Belconnen Warriors.

“I’m really excited to experience the small town atmosphere,” Loughhead said. “I went out for a meeting last week with the committee and was really impressed with the family orientated approach within the club and the whole vibe of the club itself.”

Having been at the West Belconnen Warriors since 1984 and having coached under Premiership winning coaches Adam Peters and Troy Thompson, Loughhead is hoping to put in a foundation to allow the club to taste success in the near future.

“It’s going to be a big change for me to go to another club but I had a phone call from a player I coached quite some time ago at West Belconnen who is now at Gunning and he asked me if I was interested in the job.

“I’ve got no aspirations of winning the premiership next year but the following year I’d like to give it a good crack. I feel like I can pass on a few of the things that I’ve learned during my coaching apprenticeship under Troy Thompson and Adam Peters and pass that on to these guys out in the bush.”

To help with his long term vision for the club, Loughhead is aiming to keep things simple.

“I think last year the club struggled with getting numbers to training and basic structure really. I think it’ll be about going back to the fundamentals, starting from scratch and teaching them some plays that I’ve learned from my time at West Belconnen.”
