Yass Magpies 22 (Tries: G Suckling, J Howard, S Afele, H Massey, V Alley; Goals: G Suckling) d Tuggeranong Buffaloes 12 (Tries: M Clark 2; Goals: A Kyburz 2)
The Yass Magpies’ ten-point win over the Tuggeranong Buffaloes has kept them in first position with just two rounds left before the finals.
After suffering their first loss of the season last time out against the Queanbeyan Blues, the Magpies bounced right back into the winners’ circle.
Yass second rower Jess Howard said the fourth-placed Buffaloes tested them on Monday night.
“They were very physical which made it a hard match,” Howard said. “They can rely on some of their girls to take some quite tough hit ups and they’ve definitely stuck it to us when we’ve played them.”
As finals football approaches, Howard has named Goulburn as the team to beat.
“They have talent all over the field,” Howard said. “They’ve just got girls that play hard and they’ve got a lot of girls that can set up. I think they’re the team that will be a challenge to beat come the Grand Final.
Meanwhile, the Buffaloes have all but secured a finals berth, they sit two wins clear of the Queanbeyan Kangaroos with two rounds left and have a superior points difference.
In the other Round 12 matches, Goulburn and the Queanbeyan Blues were both awarded points due to forfeits.
