Round 13 of the Katrina Fanning Shield saw the last finals place secured, while the Minor Premiership was secured by the Yass Magpies.
Tuggeranong Buffaloes 18 (Tries: M Clark, C Jackson, N Lal, C Smith; Goals: A Kyburz) d Queanbeyan Kangaroos 6 (Tries: N Brunhuber; Goals: K Parsons)
The Tuggeranong Buffaloes’ win over the Queanbeyan Kangaroos on Friday night secured them their maiden finals berth.
Tuggeranong fought hard after going down 6-0 early in the match to come out on top in a game played in the driving rain.
The Buffaloes’ run of three wins from five games had put some space between them and the fifth-placed Queanbeyan Kangaroos before last week’s win mathematically guaranteed them a finals spot.
Tuggeranong second rower Emma Johnson spoke of how much qualifying for a maiden finals campaign means to her and her teammates.
“It’s an amazing feeling,” Johnson said. “At the start of the season we set out to get in the top four and make the finals and it’s a great feeling to have achieved that.
“We trained hard and worked as a team to get there and we had that set out from the start of the season that that’s where we wanted to be.”
Elsewhere, Yass sealed the Minor Premiership as they collected two competition points due to Gungahlin forfeiting. Goulburn also claimed the two points due to forfeit.
