The Yass Magpies became the first side to secure a spot in the 2018 Katrina Fanning Shield Grand Final with a convincing 42-4 win over Queanbeyan United.
Finishing on top of the ladder by just one competition point secured them a home semi final and they made no mistake in converting their minor premiership into a Grand Final appearance.
They now have the week off before facing the winner of Sunday’s preliminary final in the Grand Final.
Queanbeyan United will now have to qualify for the Grand Final the hard way.
Losing in the major semi final means they must now beat Goulburn next week to make the Grand Final.
Their two previous meetings with Goulburn have finished in one win and one loss so they’ll have to be at their best if they’re to overcome Goulburn.
Goulburn now sit just one win away from a Grand Final berth after a big win over the Tuggeranong Buffaloes in the minor semi final.
Qualifying for the preliminary final reflects the quality they have shown throughout the year, with them finishing the season just two competition points behind first place.
Tuggeranong’s season has comes to an end but there are plenty of positives the club can take away from their maiden finals berth.
Goulburn now face Queanbeyan United at Seiffert Oval on Sunday for a place in the Grand Final.
