KFS Season Review: Queanbeyan Blues

Katrina Fanning Shield

Position: 2nd
Win/Loss/Draw: 10-2-0
Points For: 380
Points Against: 134

The Blues enjoyed a successful second season in the Katrina Fanning Shield but were unable to hit the same heights they managed in 2017.

The Queanbeyan based outfit won their first five matches which included a 22-6 win over Goulburn to extend their winning run from last season to 19 games.

However, that record came to an end in Round 7 as they suffered a 22-12 loss to Yass at Walker Park. They bounced back with a win against their Queanbeyan rivals but then went down to Goulburn 30-0.

The Blues won their final four games of the regular season, including a 26-22 win against Yass but were beaten by the same opponents in the Major Semi Final.

The Preliminary Final was against Goulburn and it was hard to pick with the two sides having a win apiece during the regular season. Despite mounting a late comeback, the Blues suffered a 32-22 loss.

Season Highlight

There are plenty of options for season highlights but a 40-6 win against the Valley Dragons marked the Blues’ 19th consecutive win in the Katrina Fanning Shield. Although that run ended the following week, it was a remarkable achievement.
