A Nora Lal masterclass has seen the Tuggeranong Buffaloes defeat the Gungahlin Bulls 42-0 at Seiffert Oval in the opening The Mawson Club Katrina Fanning Shield game for the season.
Playing in their first ever Katrina Fanning Shield season, the Bulls struggled to match the Buffaloes after Sharna Turton injured her ankle in the first half.
After an error riddled opening stanza, the Tuggeranong Buffaloes were the first side to score after seven minutes on the back of a scrum.
Shaping to go down the open side, the Buffaloes went down the short side as Nora Lal ran 30 meters to score.
The Bulls responded well had gained field position well within the opposition 20 meters but were dealt a blow as Sharna Turton broke her ankle. The injury ensured there would be no further action in the half.
Tuggeranong started the second half strongly as Nora Lal grabbed her second try of the evening. The fullback sliced through the Gungahlin defence after a Makayla Clark pass put her through the line.
Lal had her hattrick two minutes later when she latched onto a loose ball after Amanda Kyburz threw a wayward offload close to the try line. The fullback gathered the ball and ran hard and straight at the Bulls defence and proved to be too strong.
Kyburz added to the scoreline not long afterwards as she broke through the Gungahlin line and ran 50 meters to score.
Catherine Carling scored in the corner for Tuggeranong before Lal grabbed her fourth in the opposite corner.
Carling then turned provider as a damaging run saw her leave defenders in her wake before passing to her winger Salote Temu, who scored.
Carling then scored her second near fulltime as she ran 30 meters unopposed after a damaging Nora Lal run.
