The Queanbeyan Kangaroos have dented the Yass Magpies’ finals aspirations with a convincing 46-12 win at Seears Workwear Oval.
After a tense opening to the match, the Kangaroos opened the scoring after 14 minutes through Ryan Tuckwell after the winger capitalised on an Andrew Swaffield mistake.
Having poked their noses in front, the Queanbeyan outfit scored another two tries in quick succession after Jake Kiely scored his sixth try in five games before Josh Hitchins also crossed the line.
Brent Crisp extended the Kangaroos’ lead six minutes before the break with a strong surge over the try line.
Fonua Tonga started Queanbeyan’s second half in ideal fashion with a powerful run down the line to score before Bryan Cronan also scored.
Nick Grant continued to pile on the misery for Yass as he scored again before the Magpies finally got on the board through Jesse McDonald.
Nukurua Ngere hit back for the Kangaroos on the back of some excellent work by Brent Crisp before Ryan Tuckwell nabbed his second.
Junior Vatikani scored a late consolation try for Yass after Scott Naughton ran through to soccer a towering kick through to the corner where the center grounded the ball
