Season Preview: Woden Valley Rams

The Woden Valley Rams will be aiming to go back to back after a dream season in 2018.

The Rams have been a victim of their success with a number of players including coach Ash Barnes being promoted to the Canberra Raiders Under 20’s side but showed their impressive depth by winning the West Belconnen Nines last month.

Les McIntyre Medalist Michael Gilmour joins a host of forwards that won’t play this season, meaning extra responsibility will be placed on the shoulders of inspirational captain Jeff Morgan.

Key Player – Lincoln Withers

It was a fairytale year for the Woden junior as he returned to the club and led them to their first premiership in 22 years.

It what was a similar side to the one that missed the finals the year before, Withers added experience and composure to Woden’s game as they finished the season on a 13 match unbeaten run.

This year the former Canberra Raiders playmaker takes on the reigns as coach while also steering the side around the field from halfback.

The rookie – Sean Maloney

“He’s been performing well and has plenty of confidence. He can play anywhere on the field and although playing five-eighth has added to his game, I’ll be playing him more at lock this season.” – Lincoln Withers
