Michael ‘Swanny’ Swan unfortunately lost his battle to the crippling Motor Neurone Disease through the night of September 4th.
Michael was an avid West Belconnen Warriors supporter and contributor to the club. He showed his passion for the club as Manager of premiership winning teams as well as personal contributions of sponsorship for players over many years.
Swanny was diagnosed with MND in late 2017. A devastating disease that impacts many Australians.
In June this year, the West Belconnen Warriors held a ‘Walk to D-Feet MND’ round to support Swanny and his family as well as raise much needed funds for research to find a cure for the disease. The club successfully raised over $800 for MND and over $1500 to go directly to Swanny and his wife, Deb.
West Belconnen President Steve Kirby said that Michael would be deeply missed by the whole West Belconnen community.
“Swanny was one of those people that once you meet, they leave an everlasting impression on you and you couldn’t wait to catch up with him again,” Kirby said. “He had an infectious laugh and was just a kind and caring bloke that always made time for you when you saw him.
“Swanny will be deeply missed by the whole West Belconnen Warriors community and our love and thoughts go out to Deb and the whole Swan family during this most difficult time.”
Michael’s funeral will commence at 12noon on Friday 14 September at Norwood Park Crematorium. The wake will be held immediately afterwards at Raiders Belconnen in Kippax.
Swanny will be remembered by the West Belconnen Warriors and the wider community as a bloody larrikin who loved a VB & scotch.
