The Woden Valley Rams have catapulted into the top four with a resounding 30-4 win over the West Belconnen Warriors at Phillip on Sunday afternoon.
With the Yass Magpies and Queanbeyan Blues failing to collect maximum competition points on Saturday, Woden’s seventh consecutive game without a loss saw them move into outright fourth.
Michael Gilmour opened the scoring for the Rams in the second minute after he pounced on a loose ball after West Belconnen fullback Ryan McQueen fumbled a Sean Maloney grubber.
The Warriors hit back shortly afterwards as a towering Brandon Withers kick bounced into the path of Ryley Thomas who soccered the ball towards the in goal where Withers scored.
That was as good as it got for the second placed Warriors as Cody Hodge scored out wide before Gilmour crashed over the line on the verge of halftime.
The Rams carried on in a similar vein in the second half as Michael Geiger barged over for increase Woden’s lead to 20 points.
Woden scored the final points of the match close to the hour mark as Daine Spencer gathered a Lincoln Withers cross-field kick to score spectacularly in the corner.
The result sees the Warriors remain in second place ahead of their top of the table clash against the Tuggeranong Bushrangers, while Woden will take on the Queanbeyan Blues next weekend.
